At the beginning of the nineties ones choices were minimal and agonizingly boring. The market was dominated by nut chocolates and milk chocolates. Eating dark bitter chocolates was regarded as something out of the ordinary. Josef Zotter wanted to make more out of chocolate and began to revolutionize the market with 'hand scooped' chocolates and outstanding varieties. In the meantime his creations have turned into a cult in Europe.
Zotter has never followed the market but did only what his inquiring mind urged him to do. Over 300 different varieties are created in his state of the art “bean to bar” facility. These chocolates are created for individuals who want to enjoy with awareness.
Quality is a key element in the creative vision for these chocolates. For only the best ingredients ensure an elevated taste experience. This combined with inventive and creative flavor combinations will guarantee a unique taste adventure.
Zotter is the only manufacturer in Europe who produces organic and fair trade chocolates exclusively from the bean.
Creativity
Artful packaging created by design award winner Andreas H. Gratze is also environmentally conscious. Zotter refrains from using glossy coatings on the packaging and it conveniently recyclable because of its paper and ink applications.
Fair Trade
The busy chocolatier has been traveling to the cocoa growing countries since 2001 in order to establish personal contacts with the farmers, because he quickly became aware of the fact that there are plenty of chocolates which can make you feel uneasy.
Most chocolate producers turn a blind eye to some bitter facts and decline responsibility for grievances in the countries of cultivation. Child labour, modern day slavery, cruelty to animals and clearing of rain forests are no trivial offences. The majority of chocolate products violate all kinds of ethics and laws.
Therefore Zotter relies on Fair Trade.
Cocoa is listed on the stock market and its price fluctuates. Fair Trade ensures a steady income for the farmers and guarantees them a fixed minimum price of $2000 per ton. If this price is exceeded, the farmers receive the higher price plus a fair trade premium of $200 per ton.
But, in the case of organic cocoa, $300 per ton are added to this price.
Zotter obtains his Fair Trade Organic Cocoa from the following countries:
Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Congo, and India.
Quality, creativity, sustainability are the key elements of the vision infused in these chocolate creations.
